E. G. Allen, Once Mayor Of Teaneck

Edward G. Allen, former mayor of Teaneck, died May 24 in his home in Jekyll Island, Ga., where he had retired 20 years ago.  He was 79.

A Republican, Mr. Allen served as mayor from 1956 to 1958.  He also served on the Teaneck Board of Education from 1943 to 1951 and was president of the board from 1949 to 1951.

A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh, Mr. Allen worked for the Mutual Life Insurance Co. before retiring.  He was active in the Presbyterian Church of Teaneck and the Jekyll Island Baptist Chapel, where he worked on the Children Summer Youth Program.

Surviving are his wife, the former Doris Ruehe; two son, Dr. Edward Allen of Clifton Forge, Va., and Donald B. of Elmwood, Wis.; a sister, Mabel Keith of Avon, and six grandchildren.

Memorial services were May 28.

Memorial donations to the Jekyll Island Baptist Chapel Children Summer Youth Program would be appreciated.
