William W. Platt

William Platt was born in Weehawken, NJ on 7/19/1923 to Frances and James Platt. He had a brother, James. The family later moved to Teaneck, NJ.  

William attended Teaneck High School and graduated in 1940. He was described in his Yearbook as being witty and quiet. His ambition was to become an engineer. He was a member of the Kamera Club, Math Club and Active Atoms Club. Subsequent to his graduation from Teaneck High School, William attended Paterson State Teacher’s College where he participated in basketball and baseball.

William was selected as a candidate for Naval Aviation Cadet Training. In addition, he completed primary flying training and advanced flying training which qualified him as a Naval aviator. On 2/18/44 he was appointed to Second Lieutenant and was assigned to active duty in the United States Marines.

This brave Marine Officer, who died while serving his country on 4/21/44, lies buried in Hackensack Cemetery, Hackensack, NJ.
