William Katz was born in 1921 to Paul and Erna Katz in New York. He was the couple's only child. The family lived on Overpeck Ave, Ridgefied Park before moving to Teaneck only a few years later. Bill graduated Oxford Academy in Pleasantville, New Jersey. Right after High School Bill entered Notre Dame for college. On November 14th, 1942 Bill enlisted into the Air Corps at the San Antonio Aviation Cadet Center in Texas.
On August 4th, 1943, Bill completed his Primary Flight Training at the Contract Flying School in East St. Louis. Bill was then assigned to Independence, Kan., for his basic flying course. Afterwards, Bill went to Eagle Pass, Tex., for Pilot training. On December 11th 1943, Bill received his pilot wings at Randolph Field, Tex. Now a 2nd Lieutenant and a fighter pilot, Bill had the rest of the war to face. However Bill would never see the day. About January 21st 1944, 2nd Lieutenant William Katz died in a training crash near Hammond Field, Louisiana.
