The Finance Department is responsible for the receipt, safeguarding, investment, and disbursement of municipal funds which includes tax collection, accounts payable, and payroll. This Department also includes the Registrar of Vital Statistics, who issues all birth, marriage and death certificates, marriage licenses, and burial permits.
In 2002, the Finance Department disbursed more than $41,000,000 in budget appropriations through the processing of more than 4,500 vouchers. In addition, the Department prepared a twice monthly payroll for over 375 full-time employees, as well as part-time and seasonal employees, including all State and Federal returns.
The Finance Department sold a $3,544,000 13 year bond at a net interest rate of 4.1969% for the purpose of the permanent financing of the Richard Rodda Community Center addition.
The Department also continued to maintain an in-house computer for its budget and accounting system as well as the network of the Municipal Building, Fire Department (an addition in 2002) and Recreation Department. Plans are underway to complete the linking of all Township buildings via a wide-area-network in 2003.
The Tax Office handled the billing, tax collection and tax searches for more than 12,000 properties in the Township as well as inquiries for related information from residents, attorneys, Realtors, banks, mortgage companies and others.
