Innocent Voices: 2004 El Salvadoran drama. Rated R for violence and language. Runtime is 120 minutes.

Plot Summary: A young boy, in an effort to have a normal childhood in 1980s El Salvador, is caught up in a dramatic fight for his life as he desperately tries to avoid the war that is raging all around him. The film, based on Director Oscar Orlando Torres' memoir as an 11-year-old Salvadoran where 12-year-olds were snatched by the army from buses, schools, and villages, given guns and told to fight.

The Washington Post says "good memoirs don't emanate from the head; they spring directly from the unencumbered hearts. Without this primacy of feeling, they're worthless. Innocent Voices depicts a Salvadoran civil war of gimlet-eyed, American-funded soldiers against genial, guitar-strumming guerrillas..." as a young boy remembers it.

The descriptions don't capture the life-force qualities of this movie. I found this film rewarding viewing, full of vibrant life-force.

Molière: 2007 French comedy. French with English subtitles. Running time is 120 minutes.

Plot Summary: The playwright Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known as Molière, is thrown into debtors' prison early on in his career. Following his release from prison, there exists a gap of several months. That gap can be accounted for, according to the film's distributor, as follows:

"Released from prison, French actor-playwright Molière (Romain Duris) learns his freedom was secured by the wealthy but talentless Jourdain (Fabrice Luchini), who wants his help in putting on a play to seduce a comely young widow. Molière agrees but must pose as a priest to hide his benefactor's secret motives from the household females - including Jourdain's beautiful wife. Laura Morante co-stars in this period comedy set in 17th-century Paris."

This description, while accurate, neglects to mention the delightful plot twists, the gorgeous costumes and interiors, and the stunning French countryside.
